about

Here we are, meeting in the realm of these words, written on the last day of 2022 and the 5th day of 2023. It's foggy out, dreary and comforting, a dog is barking in our courtyard. There's a faint trickle coming from the rooftops and drainpipes.

The Archives 2012-2019 vol.1, represent a musical development, within the arena of my home. They sit in hard drives that will soon perish and so will we, but in the meantime I wanted to share these, for they speak to me. There was a time when I had outgrown them, now they comfort me.

a few words on the setlist..

'Confession for Kian' is me noodling mostly pentatonic on my old Gulbransen spinnet in the days after his birth. The white noise maker gives it an added feeling of infinity.
'Glenn Dale Drive' is a loose form composition based on a field recording made in Woodland Park, CO. These home sketches where among my first explorations in Logic, and what strikes me now is the unscrupuled use of effects. A color is a color, let's see what goes around. And yes, I play the drums.
'For Ben' is a track dedicated to Ben Gerstein. All the sounds heard came from his apartment in the Washington Heights where many landscapes and time zones flowed freely into one.
'The Roofs'. I love NYC roofs, such a perspective. Of course there are lots of sounds to be found up there, rich with possibility.
'Pop Rains', probably made in 2012 when I had so much to loose. Now I have nothing to loose and so much more to share. The trickling rain sounds come from my courtyard, it's reverberations delightful. Listening to this now it sounds like an ode to Angelo Badalamenti who passed away recently.
'In Between (Sirens)', based on a sample caught entering the Metropolitan museum, driven by a questionable effect. I like it though, and then a train appears as I was recording a subway busker who is looking for the right notes.
